Patricia had had a boyfriend in an on-and-off relationship, and John had had the impression that she was more intent on the boyfriend than he was on her. Other than him, she didn't date any one guy for extended periods. He wondered why that was for an attractive woman like her.
John also remembered the impression he'd had that Patricia was keen on him, and sensed a competitiveness between her and his wife, on Patricia's part. But her overtures soon turned to sarcasm when she saw the affection and stability between John and his wife.
